About Sue, Founder of Unity Yoga

“Be a light unto yourself'“ - The Buddha

Susan Horning began her yoga journey in her twenties as she finished up her business degree at Simon Fraser University. She wanted to find a way to sustainably participate in Vancouver’s thriving wellness economy while at the same time doing what she enjoyed most - making community connections through healing practices.

After opening Unity Yoga Teahouse in 2006, she invited students to “drop in for yoga, and stay for tea'“ and included a warm practice space and tea room to enjoy a variety of her herbal tea blends and a boutique store.

As her practice deepened, the community grew and with the great company of her companion instructors, she led retreats locally to Stowel Lake Farm on Salt Spring Island and overseas trips to Guatemala and Costa Rica, and as far away as Lombok, Indonesia. Retreat inspiration blossomed from these journeys!

Sue is a lifelong learner, and is qualified as a Clinical Herbalist, Thai Masseuse Trainer, and Classical Chinese Astrologist. It is her goal to work toward mastery of subjects that ignite her interest and passion for her service offerings.

After closing the doors of her East van studio in 2020, she relocated to Galiano Island, BC and is now offering public glasses to her fellow gulf islands residents. She hopes to work on the land and enjoy life by the sea, learning, teaching, and hosting retreats. For more information please visit unityretreats.ca.
